Frequently asked questions
How much income do I need for the Spain non-lucrative visa?
400% of IPREM for the main applicant, which is EUR 2,400 a month (EUR 28,800 a year) in 2026, plus 100% of IPREM (EUR 600 a month) for each family member. You cannot work in Spain on this visa.
How much do I need for the Portugal D7 visa?
At least the Portuguese minimum wage, EUR 920 a month in 2026, for the first adult, plus 50% for each extra adult and 30% for each child.
How much do I need for the Italian elective residence visa?
The consulate in Houston asks for at least EUR 31,000 a year for a single person and EUR 62,000 for a married couple, from passive sources such as pensions, rent or investments. Other consulates may set different amounts for spouses and children, and income from work does not count.
Is there a fixed amount for the French visitor visa?
No. France asks for enough money to live without working, and consulates commonly compare your income with the net minimum wage (SMIC), EUR 1,477.93 a month. Treat it as a guide, not a guarantee.
Is meeting the income enough to get the visa?
No. These are minimums. You will also need private health insurance, a clean criminal record, accommodation and other documents, and consulates may ask for more money. Savings can sometimes replace income; ask the consulate.
