EES Entry/Exit System Checker
See whether the EU will register you at the border, and what to expect.
The EES also counts your days automatically. Do your own count first with the 90/180 day calculator, and check whether you will need ETIAS.
Frequently asked questions
What is the EES?
The Entry/Exit System is the EU's electronic border register. It started on Sun, 12 October 2025 and has been fully running at all Schengen external borders since Fri, 10 April 2026. It replaced passport stamps for non-EU travellers on short stays.
Do I need to apply for the EES?
No. There is nothing to apply for and no fee. You are registered at the border the first time you cross after it started, and your record is reused on later trips.
What does the EES record?
Your name and passport details, a photo of your face, fingerprints (four fingers), and the date and place of every entry and exit, plus any refusal of entry.
Do children give fingerprints?
Children under 12 do not give fingerprints. They still have their face photo and passport details recorded.
How long is my EES data kept?
Usually up to 3 years. Records of people who overstayed are kept longer.
Is the EES the same as ETIAS?
No. The EES records you at the border and is already running. ETIAS is a travel authorisation that visa-free travellers will apply for online before travelling, and it has not started yet.
