Frequently asked questions
How much is a UK ETA?
£20 per person, including babies and children. Every traveller needs their own ETA.
Who needs a UK ETA?
Visitors who do not need a UK visa, including EU citizens, Americans, Canadians, Australians, New Zealanders and Japanese citizens, and passengers transiting through UK border control. British and Irish citizens, and people who already have UK permission to live, work or study, do not need one.
How long does a UK ETA last?
2 years, or until the passport you applied with expires if that is sooner. If you get a new passport, you need a new ETA. You can visit as many times as you like, for up to 6 months each time.
Is the UK ETA the same as ETIAS?
No. The UK is outside the EU and Schengen, so the ETA is a separate British scheme with its own fee and rules. ETIAS for the Schengen area has not started yet.
Does time in the UK count toward my Schengen 90 days?
No. Days in the UK do not count toward the Schengen 90 days in 180.
