Frequently asked questions

How much is a Schengen visa in 2026?

EUR 90 for adults and children aged 12 and over, EUR 45 for children aged 6 to 11, and free for children under 6. These fees have applied since Tue, 11 June 2024, when they rose from EUR 80 and EUR 40.

Why do I pay more than EUR 90?

Most consulates use an outside visa centre such as VFS Global, TLScontact or BLS. They charge their own service fee on top of the visa fee, and extras like SMS updates or courier return cost more.

What is the reduced EUR 35 fee?

Some countries have a visa facilitation agreement with the EU that lowers the fee to EUR 35. Some of these agreements are suspended (for example with Russia and Belarus), so tick that box only if your consulate confirms the reduced fee.

Who does not pay a visa fee?

Children under 6, school pupils, students and teachers on study trips, researchers, some young NGO representatives at qualifying events, and family members of EU, EEA or Swiss citizens who are exercising free movement.

Is the fee refunded if my visa is refused?

No. The visa fee pays for processing your application and is not refunded if the visa is refused.
